Spotted: Ildikó Barta – Philemon and Baucis

Today I’m introducing you to the composer, piano player, singer and teacher Ildikó Barth and her track Philemon and Baucis. Ildikó started to play the piano at the age of nine but fell in love with music at the mere age of three. She comes from a family of musicians and first started to study cello for her mum. She also plays the violin. She has always written music but went public with her compositions in 2019.

The track Philemon and Baucis was released on the album Ildikós piano: Autumn which came out on the 12th of October, 2023.

Tell us something about your track Philemon and Baucis!
Philemon and Baucis were an old married couple and the only ones in their town to welcome disguised gods Zeus and Hermes embodying the pious exercise of hospitality the ritualized guest-friendship.They asked that when time came for one of them to die, that the other would die as well. Upon their death, the couple were changed into an intertwining pair of trees, an oak and a linden, standing in the deserted boggy terrain.I was very inspired by this story and I immediately dreamt up a piano piece from it, which became one of the pieces on my second solo piano album.

Thank you for this Ildikó!
