Today I’m introducing you to American composer Stephen Weber. Stephen was born in Winnipeg, Canada but spent most of his childhood in the United States. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 7, organ lesson at the age of 10 and started making his own music at the age of 13.
The track Ever so Still is taken from the album Improvisations which was released in April of 2020.
Tell us something about your track Ever so still!
This track, like all of the 18 tracks on the album, was improvised, though many of them ended up in the trash heap. This one did involve two takes; the initial piano track and the bowed piano effect tacked on at the end, symbolic of how those memories have faded a bit, but the feelings associated with them remain. As a classically trained musician used to reading music, improvisation was a skill I lacked, so it was something I worked on for over a year before the album came together. There were many disastrous tracks along the way as I typically recorded my improvisation sessions. In the end, I learned a great deal from the experience.
Thank you Stephen for sharing this album with us!
