Spotted: Edward Cross – Waltz for Alex

Today I’m presenting you with the track Waltz for Alex by the British composer and piano player Edward Cross; based in the countryside near the city Bath. Edward started playing the piano at the age of four and later started to play the trombone and clarinet as well. After an injury on his jaw he decided to go in a different direction and started working on his first piano EP.

The track Waltz for Alex was released as a single on the 3rd of February, 2023.

Tell us something about your track Waltz for Alex!
I composed this piece during the first lockdown. It was an improvisation that I decided to upload to instagram, but i really fell in love with the idea, so decided to record it properly. I almost released the original improvisation, however you could hear my mum hoovering so i figured it wasn’t the best idea…

I dedicated it to my friend, Alex, who was struggling with the loss of a parent.

I find it hard to describe the meaning behind my pieces, and i think the meaning changes with each listen, which is one of the reasons I love instrumental music! The listener can form their own narrative.

Thank you for this Edward!
