Spotted: Frerick den Haan – Book of Symbols

Today I’m presenting you with another track by the great dutch composer and piano player Frerick den Haan. Frerick started his solo piano journey in 2021 and has since then reached the top editorial playlists on Spotify. He records his own music at home with his upright piano and has also made a name for himself on the dutch jazz scene and in the indie pop band Handsome Poets.

Book of Symbols is the first single of a new album due to be released in April. The track was released as a single on the 10th of February, 2023.

Tell us something about your track Book of Symbols!
Since a few years I started to collect a lot of books on esoterica, classical literature, Norse and Greek mythologies sagas and symbols. Frerick says: ”there is so much interesting  untapped knowledge that isn’t taught in school nowadays. I’ve been fascinated about all these topics ranging from self-actualization to the polytheistic world views of many ancient cultures. Symbols play a vast role in all these topics.” A quote by the German philosopher and mystic Meister Eckhard (1260) explains it all; ”When the soul wants to experience something she throws out an image in front of her and then steps into it”. Eckard sees symbols as evocations to new dimensions. Though these dimensions are interpreted differently, it cannot be denied how important they are in a world chaotic and complex as our own. Book of Symbols encourages the listener to delve in the meaning of life through symbols. If mastered, the world opens up to you in many different ways.

Thank you for this Frerick!
