Spotted: Gifts from Crows – Forever Surrendering (felt rework)

Today I’m presenting you with the track Forever Surrendering by the British composer and piano player Richard Laurence, who releases music under the moniker Gifts from Crows. He is based partly in Chester and partly on the remote Isle of Skye in Scotland. Richard have created music since the early 90s and has a history in post-rock and electronic studio projects. Gifts from crows is also a progressive jazz trio.

The track Forever Surrendering was released as part of the E.P. ‘Felt Reworks’ on the 9th of May 2025.

Tell us something about your track Forever Surrendering!
The title ‘Forever Surrendering’ is taken from a poem called ‘Blended Senses’ by Nigel Ayres. To me, those two words perfectly encapsulate the artistic experience, the state within which the creative moment happens. To be an artist means to allow yourself to be open, to allow things to flow through you. The liminal space between attention and meditation is where the spark of inspiration occurs and it is the artist’s lot to be present in that moment.

This version is a deeper cut than the original recording, played on felt piano to emphasise the delicacy of emotions, the recording enhanced with a vintage reverb.

Thank you for this Richard!
