Spotted: Martin Rott – A Geeks Lullaby

Today I’m presenting you with the track A Geeks Lullaby by the American composer and piano player Martin Rott, who is now located in Berlin, Germany. Martin is originally a drummer and played his first show at the age of eleven. He’s parents are both classical violinists. He has composed music for many German TV-shows.

The track A Geeks Lullaby was released as a single on the 18th of august, 2023 but will also be part of an album in November.

Tell us something about your track A Geeks Lullaby!
There is a story to A GEEKS LULLABY:  The moment after my grand piano was delivered to my studio the weather got crazy and it started pouring like once in a hundred years. The whole yard flooded and the electricity got shut down for the entire complex. After we had cleaned the floor from some water that had been pressing through the ceiling and everyone had left, it turned dark and since I didn’t have a computer to work with, I started playing myself a lullaby, barely seeing the keys, composing my first solo piece on that piano. It took a while before I had developed the B Part, with its unexpected harmonic changes, switching between anxiety and hope. This led to turning the piece into a Lullaby for someone trying to sleep on a plane, a narrative that fits the storyline of the Album – Utopian Traveller. I finally recorded the piece on my studio buddies felted upright, because it felt more intimate than the grand and I didn’t even try fixing the squeaky pedal, because actually it even added to that living room feeling I was looking for.

Thank you for sharing this with us Martin!
