Spotted: Matthew Paull – Muriwai

Spotted: Matthew Paull – Muriwai

Today I’m introducing you to the track Muriwai by the composer and piano player Matthew Paull from New Zeeland. Matthew is now based in Berlin and has played the piano since the age of eight. He moved to Berlin in 2016 and became a session musician. He started to release his own music in 2020.

The track Muriwai was released as a single on the 7th of May, 2021.

Tell us something about your track Muriwai!
Unlike my previous two releases, which were inspired by specific emotions and ideas, ‘Muriwai’ (English translation: ‘Water’s end’) is a piece that is based on and shares it’s name with a specific place, a beach that lies on the west coast of New Zealand. On this beach you’ll walk on the black sand with the tall cliffs beside you, while Gannets are flying all around due to the colony that lives there. After visiting this place, it remained in my thoughts as I was writing my next piece, which is why I decided to use the name. The artwork is also based off of a real photograph taken there.

Thank you very much for this Matthew!
