Spotted: Ros Gilman – Sadness

Today I’m presenting you with the track Sadness by the British-German composer and piano player Ros Gilman. Ros is originally a concert violinist but his career as a violin player came to an abrupt end when he suffered a hand injury. Today he mainly writes film music and contemporary classical pieces.

The track Sadness was released as a single on the 31st of march 2023.

Tell us something about your track Sadness!
Sadness comes with an interesting backstory: the piece was originally written as part of a music pitch for Tony Kaye’s film Detachment. The opportunity to pitch for this fantastic project came in just as I was on holiday in Istanbul, Turkey. All I had with me was my laptop, so in order to make it possible for me to produce the music I tracked down a local music production shop and purchased a small midi-keyboard (which I still have to this day). Ultimately, what was supposed to be a holiday, turned out to be a day-long writing and music production session. The pitch was sadly unsuccessful, but I was rather fond of one of the pieces I wrote for it. Many years later, the piece came back to me and I decided to re-arrange it in a contemporary “neo-classical” manner for solo piano. This is how this release came to be.

Thank you very much for this Ros!
