Today I’m introducing you to the track Départ by the British composer Samuel Félix. Samuel comes from a family of musicians and his father was a classical conductor. His father was the one that introduced him to music by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy while his older brothers introduced him to Bill Evans, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.
Having spent the last 10 years touring the world as a session musician for several grammy winning musicians, this album marks my departure as a solo artist. It’s funny how long it can take to finally get round to making your own music!
The track Départ was released as a single on the 19th of June 2020 but will also be featured on a full Album; set for final release in late autumn.
Tell us something about your track Départ!
This single, Départ, is the debut release for me as the artist Samuel Felix. I’ve also made the sheet music available for this first single so that people can play the music at their own piano during this isolated time. All written and recorded over the ‘lockdown’ period on the same family piano that I’ve played my entire life, these recordings aim to capture the intimate relationship between a musician and their instrument.
Départ was written around the wistful notions of leaving home, escape and adventure that are weighing so heavily on everyone’s mind at the moment! It’s a mini day dream that distracts you from the news for 3 minutes 11 seconds.
Thank you Samuel for sharing this track with us!
