Spotted: Thomas James White – Taid

Spotted: Thomas James White – Taid

Today I’m presenting you with the track Taid by the British composer and piano player Thomas James White. Thomas started writing his own music when he was 12 years old and has written professionally for about three years. He got exposed to music in an early age since both he, and his brothers, were choristers at Gloucester Cathedral.

The track Taid was released as a single on the 29th of October, 2021.

Tell us something about the track Taid!
The track itself is quite personal to me. It’s title ‘Taid’ translates to ‘Grandfather’ in Welsh and was written in memory of my grandfather, who passed away in 2020. I wanted to capture a sense of loss but one of hope as well, thinking of the full life he led and all the memories I have to keep with me. The track was recorded in one go on my little 6 octave Zender upright piano. One of the first tracks I’ve recorded live in that sense. I usually incorporate lots of synths, textures and additional layers into my work. But for this track I felt it was important for it to be simple, uncomplicated and human.

Thank you very much for this Thomas!
