Spotted: Juan Maria Solare – Inocencia

Today I’m introducing you to the track Inocencia by the Argentinian composer and piano player Juan Maria Solare, which was one of the first composers I got in touch with when starting to make piano music myself! Juan started playing the piano before he could even read or write, and he considers the piano to be his “mother tongue”.

The track Inocencia was released on the album Colores de un otoño incipiente on the 22nd of April, 2022.

Tell us something about the track Inocencia!
The track ‘Inocencia’, (Spanish for ‘Innocence’), presents a single sonority throughout; a constant and stable harmonic field (d minor). One can smell in it a certain aroma of some John Cage’s music. ‘Inocencia’ has a transparent melody, but it’s so slow paced and sparse that not everybody can follow it. However, when you change your inner speed and shift down a gear or two, you can clearly feel the melodic flow. What I particularly love in ‘Inocencia’ are the resonances of the instrument, which I describe as a ‘third dimension’ of sound.

Thank you very much for this!
