Spotted: Mare Insularum Pier – Hampsicora’s lament

Today I’m introducing you to the track Hampsicora’s lament by the Italian composer and piano player Pier Fagiolo and his project Mare Insularum Pier. Pier was very fascinated by the great classical composer as a child and started to play organ when he was 9 years old.

The track Hampsicora’s lament was released as a single on the 21st of April, 2022.

Tell us something about your track Hampsicora’s lament!
This is a tribute to Hampsicora, a political leader who tried to rebel against Roman rule in Sardinia in 215 BC. He managed to gather several Sardinian tribes and to get the support of Carthage. No one could defeat the Roman Empire and so it happened that in the decisive battle his army was destroyed and his son Josto died in the fight. The song is inspired by the most human part of Hampsicora’s story, the moment he realised that all was truly lost, including his heirs, and that it was time to take his own life so as not to live under Roman rule.

Thank you for sharing this with us Pier!
