Spotten: Tranquil Streams – Distant Summers

Today I’m presenting you with a brand new track by the American piano player and composer Tranquil Streams. Based in Missouri, he began playing piano as a teenager before deciding to major in music and earning three degrees in piano. After more than a decade as a piano professor, he transitioned into the music industry. Tranquil Streams is a project they created to bring those two passions together. Released without a name or face attached, the project places the emphasis on the music rather than the artist.

The track Distant Summers was released as a single on the 14th of august.

Tells us something about your track Distant Summers!
Distant Summers is about people and experiences more than the season itself. The summers I keep returning to aren’t really about the time of year. They’re about who was there, and the heartfelt nostalgia from returning to those cherished memories. I wanted it to explore that fondness rather than a sense of loss. There is a sadder version of this piece, but I deliberately didn’t write that.

Harmonically it stays with extended chords that don’t push anywhere, with the melody moving slowly above them. The piece also contains a gently repeating figure that seems to suggest a soothing breeze. The tempo is slow with a fair amount of rubato, as if the listener is sitting with a distant memory just coming together.
