Today I’m presenting you with a new track by Swedish pianist and composer Niklas Fransson. Niklas has played the piano since childhood, initially learning mostly by ear. Rock music was an important part of his musical background, and he also spent a lot of time playing the Hammond organ.
Over the years, he has played in piano bars in Sweden and Norway, as well as on cruises in the Baltic Sea. He later studied both classical and jazz piano, and in recent years he has felt a growing need to express himself through his own music.
Niklas doesn’t define his music by one particular style. Most of his compositions begin with improvisation at the piano, following the melodies and ideas that emerge. Living in the Swedish countryside, he finds inspiration in nature, but also in places, memories, and different cultures.
His new single Serena was released on the 31st of August.
Tell us something about your track Serena!
Serena was the first piece I composed on my Yamaha U3 piano. The melody and its warm feeling came to me quite naturally and almost immediately.
I wrote it at the beginning of summer, at that special time of year when everything feels as if it is waiting to begin. For me, the piece has a peaceful and positive feeling, but there is also a small melancholic section that I am especially happy became part of the music.
ÅI think Serena reflects how something beautiful can be seen from different perspectives. There is warmth and calmness in the piece, but also something searching and slightly melancholic – a peaceful feeling of looking for something without necessarily knowing exactly what it is.”
Thank you for this Niklas!
